Hip-Hop has been very controversial since its introduction to the world in 1970's. It is seen by some, as savage, hostile, sexist, and filled with misogynistic lyrics. In spite of the fact that some songs may have those properties, there are plenty of songs that convey a positive message or a wake up call for individuals who may be in a similar circumstance. Rarely are those positive songs given their acknowledgment; it might be because of how the artists are looked at by the media, or it might be the means by which the media sees Hip-Hop as a whole. At the point when hip-hop came to Los Angeles, the rap music industry drastically changed, transitioning into the "gangster rap" age. This new type of rap would shake up the world and was driven by a group named N.W.A. “Fuck the Police” by N.W.A. is a powerful song produced in the late 90’s on the album Straight Outta Compton. The members of N.W.A. lived through the harsh life of the ghetto and experienced the struggles that young black males have growing up in the inner city of Compton, California. The main value that this song portrays is that African Americans growing up in urban communities are not treated equally by the law enforcement. One social norm that this song portrays is how Cops believe that it is acceptable to abuse their power. N.W.A. focuses on how cops are guilty of police brutality everyday in this world especially in the inner city. This norm says a lot about how police art in the society from where African Americans reside. N.W.A. members Dr. Dre and MC Ren were victims of police brutality when they were sitting on their porch with a bee bee gun minding their own business when an officer walked up and threw them on to the ground and arrested them. “Fuck the Police” sheds light on the young black males that are growing up in the projects, which are associated with crime, drugs, and violence. It also focuses on how if you’re associated with this group then you are looked at as a criminal in society’s eyes whether your innocent or not. This norm focuses on race, class, gender, and the negative social influences that this group receives in urban society. Some of these influences include pressure to deal drugs and commit crime because that is what is going on around them
