The Connecticut Nurse Practice Act defines advance nursing practice as the " performance of advanced level nursing practice activists that, by virtue of post basic specialized education and experience, are appropriate to and may be performed by an APRN". This act describes the role of an APRN as one that "performs acts of diagnosis and treatment of alternations in health status" including collaborating under a physician to prescribe, dispense, and administer therapeutic and corrective medical interventions. Furthermore, it required that in order to hold a title as an APRN that a nurse: maintain a license as a registered nurse in Connecticut, maintain a license as either a nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, or nurse anesthetist from from the following…show more content…
Although these groups of nurses obtain specialized education, are registered nurses who complete a masters education, complete advance nursing pharmacology, they are not certified by the above stated organizations and can't under their scope of practice prescribe, dispense or diagnose. As a future Clinical Nurse Leader, I am dedicated to spreading awareness on the significance of their role. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing define Clinical Nurse Leaders as "master’s prepared nurse and clinical leader in the healthcare delivery system in all settings in which care is delivered" and who are "educated with a focus on improving quality of care delivered at the microsystem or unit level" with a role of "advanced competencies in nursing leadership, interprofessional communication, care environment management, integration and coordination of care, risk assessment, implementation of evidence-based practice, and evaluation of clinical outcome". Upon graduation CNLs are eligible to sit for the CNL certification offered by the Commission on Nurse Certification
