Humor comes in different forms. Barry's humor in “Lost in the Kitchen” greatly differs from Sedaris' in “Me Talk Pretty One Day.” While both authors use humor to set the tone, Barry's form of writing is more focused on lightening the mood, and creating a funny, easy-going tone. Also, “Lost in the Kitchen” displays irony throughout, but especially in the first sentence, when we discover that the male author is making fun of the male species. On the other hand, Sedaris uses humor to show the extent of his teacher's cruelty. Sedaris heavily relies on sarcasm in “Me Talk Pretty One Day” to get his point across.
