The short story Girl Who Loved Her Horses by Drew Hayden Taylor and the poem The Lonely Land by A.J.M. Smith portray a girl and a land, with inner beauties that beam when revealed. Though the story and the poem seem to be complete opposite of one another - the short story is about a young, shy girl, while the poem is about a strange and lonely land - these two writings have hidden similarities. In these two pieces of writing, both the girl and the land are strange when compared to their counterparts. In Girl Who Loved Her Horses, the girl Danielle is described as "kind of strange." She is quiet, and doesn't socialize with the other kids in the neighborhood. Her character is similar to the land described in The Lonely Land. This land has "cedar
