A puritan human being follows their religion with strict manner. Puritan New Englander’s believed that life was a battle between their God and his enemy, Satan. . These humans in the 17th century did not have an explanation for everything that happens, unaware to the naked eye. Supernatural occasions could only be defined as God’s work. However, when a wicked supernatural event were to occur the “obvious” explanation was Satan. In puritan New England, humans abided with the social values shaping their lives to have regulated customs to keep a cooperative community. Humans are not all the same, not every single one was a perfect cooperative puritan. When an uncooperative human came about the same time a wicked supernatural event occurred their only justification were witches, Satan’s assistants. Puritan New Englanders, in the 17th century, were consumed by the ideology that they were indefectible children of God. These 17th century puritans assumed everything they did was divine, that they never ensured a reason to anger their God. The puritans were determined to reform the church of New England. In Richard Godbeer’s Escaping Salem: The other Witch Hunt of 1692, the documented incident of Katherine Branch, conveys the event of a young servant girl who claims she is being tortured by witches. This servant girl falls into different fits of torture, in the Godbeer’s book, she claims to see one of her torturers and that she reveals her name to Katherine. The name was only given to the one suffering, and this woman was seen as an aggressive member of their community.
