The Alien and Sedition Acts were largely made by the Federalists to limit the voters and the powers of the Republicans. The Alien act made it harder for immigrants to be naturalized, since immigrants were the primary voters for Republicans; the Sedition act limited criticisms and printed newspapers against the Federalist government. The Acts were made as a result from built up tensions between Federalists and Republicans about the differences in economic and foreign policy goals. The Federalists supported industry and the wealthy while the Republicans supported agriculture and middle-low classes.
