Miracle, a film based on the true story of the United States Men’s Hockey team in the 1980’s Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, is built on the foundation of teamwork and motivational leadership. It centers on Coach Herb Brooks’ philosophy of team work and how he transforms 20 players from being college rivals to a focused cohesive unit. The importance of teamwork can be understood by the coach’s explanation to the selection committee, that the reason for the Soviets’ winning spree was their focus on using talent to design a system for the betterment of their team (O'Connor, 2004). For me, the journey of these 20 players from individuals to a unified team is an interesting one and needs to be discussed in detail.
