Often times, you will see bad people punished for their bad doings. You can see them at home, when you have to sit in time out. Or sometimes, on the news, bad guys going to jail. And you can see them in fairy tales, villains who receive much more painful punishment than in real life. For example, in the story, Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters, a wicked little girl is rude and cruel to others, because of this she is punished. Furthermore, another example is in the story, Cinderella, a young maiden is forced to do what her stepfamily orders her. Eventually they are punished. And finally, in the fairy tale, The Twelve Brothers, a young maiden becomes queen, and the king’s old mother plots to get her killed because she does not speak. In fairy tales, evil will always get punished for their actions. One example in which evil gets punished for their actions is in the African folktale, Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters. In the beginning, the evil stepmother forces Cinderella to clean everything, and she is made to sleep upon a small straw bed. The stepmother is cruel and evil and Cinderella is made to do chores. At one point, when an invitation for the princes ball comes up, the stepsisters laugh when Cinderella asks if she may go, and tell her that a “Cinderwench” would never go to a ball! Once again the stepsisters are evil and think they will never be punished. They are wrong, when Cinderella wedding day with the prince comes, Cinderella and the prince walk into the church, the stepsisters come along too, when they walk in an eye from each is pecked out by a bird, and when they walk out the other is poked out so the stepsisters are blind, and punished for their evil doings.
