Abstract
Okay so basically I’m going to be talking about Chief Red Cloud, who was a Native American leader who became very important in history. He was the leader of Lakota Indians in the 1860s, this was time when the U.S. was trying to take the Indian territory. He fought in a two year battle with the U.S. government, where Chief Red Cloud fought to protect Indian land in Montana and Wyoming. He led one of the most successful and unforgettable attacks against the U.S. government. After all those years of fighting between the U.S. government and the Lakota, Chief Red Cloud finally, reluctantly, agreed to move his tribe to the Pine Hill Reservation located in South Dakota.…show more content… He was a member of the Oglala band of Sioux. His early days were ones of freedom and adventure. Red Cloud stayed in the tipi village. As he grew up he became a very good skilled hunter and a feared warrior. In the 1840s and 1850s Red Cloud have now reached being a man and became a leader. On December 21, 1866, Red Cloud won a great military victory. In 1868 a treaty of peace was signed, the fort was abandoned, and the army left these Sioux lands. Red Cloud became famous as the only Indian chief to win a war against the United States!
Red Cloud Agency was established in northwest Nebraska in 1873 near the present-day town of Crawford. This is where the government gave the Sioux Tribe the food and goods and also promised by the treaty of 1868. So everyone then recognized Red Cloud as the leader of the Oglala Sioux.
