It is definitely not the wins of the Chicago Cubs that keep the fans. Over the past four years, the Cubs have lost 377 games and won 271 (winning percentage of about 41 percent). What keeps the fans coming back every year to watch this team play? Every Chicago Cubs fan has the same three characteristics; frustration, optimism and loyalty. Thanks to my Mom, I started to follow and become a die-hard Cubs fan in 2003. But, why 2003? Something special and different happened that year. I grew up and live in San Diego, CA. Each year, the baseball teams in each league play every team twice, one series at home and the other away. I do not know why but, when the Chicago Cubs would come to town, it would be the weekend of my birthday. I would…show more content…
For the first time in five years, they made the playoffs and for the first time in fourteen years, they won the first series to earn themselves a spot in the Championship series. The NLCS, National League Championship Series, was set. The Chicago Cubs were to play the Florida Marlins. The first five games of the series were great games and at the end of the fifth game the Cubs had a three to two series lead. Then came game six. The Cubs were up three to one going into the bottom of the seventh inning. The person that sang the seventh inning stretch, made a tiny error and everything started to go downhill. The Cubs came up to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning and nothing happened. To the eighth inning we go, six outs away from going to the World Series. Many fans were also going to try to catch this foul ball. But one in particular, Steve…show more content…

Theo put his six-year plan into action when he first arrived in Chicago. Phase one: get rid of all the big money players, to create more financial room and stock pile the Minor League system with talent. Phase two: bring talent up to the Majors. Phase three: WIN. After many long and difficult seasons, we are currently at the end of phase two. Experts are saying that the talent that team has in the system could be the most power anyone has ever seen in baseball. The Cubs are moving in the right direction. The team calls these prospects the fab five: OF Albert Almora, OF Jorge Soler, C/OF Kyle Schwarber, SS Javier Baez, and 3B Kris Bryant. They also have a third shortstop/outfielder, Addison Russell, that could be in the fab five. With that talent added to a lineup with two all-stars, Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro, has ridiculous power. They just hired if not the best manager in the game, one of the best. The Cubs are in the market for a big time starting pitcher or two to help with the starting lineup and a veteran bat. The reasons to be optimistic now are growing by
