I started my career in the gaming industry in 1986 working for Sun International in Venda as a trainee dealer. I then transferred to The Wild Coast Sun Casino and enjoyed a long relationship with the company from 1986 to 1999 working for a total of 10 years which was interspersed with travelling overseas. During my travels overseas I had the privilege of doing a number of jobs from waitressing, packing parachutes at a drop zone, scuba diving to learning how to sail a yacht and working as a second skipper on the Red Sea in the south of Israel. During my travels and adventures overseas I learned to work with many different nationalities and cultures. My role in the casino is to run the tables section of the gaming floor, to ensure that my team performs to optimum productivity levels and customer service is of the highest quality. My personal portfolio is on job training, I approach this with a lot of passion using my heart, hands and head. My team is diverse and mainly from the millennial generation. My team work in a faced paced environment, need to think on their feet and be able to cope with the demands put on them. The Garden Route Casino is a small to medium sized casino with 16 gaming tables and 412 slot machines. Currently we have 5 Pit Managers, 10 Supervisors and 27 dealers. Two of our Pit Managers are newly appointed and are still struggling to find their feet. They are not necessarily thinking about the process of change at the moment so I will need to ensure that I also get their buy in by explaining the importance of team participation in order for us to succeed. For this to happen I will need to use a more coaching style intent on developing their future performances, help to develop their strengths and weaknesses and support their career
