The findings from the study written by Beacham and Deatrick would be appropriate to apply to the population I have had the privilege working with at Piitoayis Family School. The age group and chronic health conditions (CHC) that Beacham and Deatrick focus on, apply to the population being studied. Miller & Harris (2011) explain that CHC’s “require attention to…medications and treatments, and symptom management” (p. 292). Several of the children I am working with come from marginalized families, where their parents are often not able to support their condition by paying for medications and treatment, and building the childs’ coping strategies.
