1.What are UPS "Smart Labels?" What role do they play in UPS operations?
Answer: UPS Smart Labels is a simulated delivery tag which can be created using a PC and it has three barcodes, two of them are standard barcodes but the third one is a square maxi code which stores data such as the sender, recipient and the package size in a digital form. The role they play is to keep track of the packages, permits UPS to handle lots of packages, keeps everything organize and updates the information system each time which aids UPS and the sender to know where the package is every minute of its journey; helps packages to be delivered in time to the recipient.
2.Write out the steps a package takes from pick-up by a UPS driver to delivery including the role of DIAD, the UPS Data Center, and the UPS Package Center.
Answer: First of all, the customer gives the package to the UPS employee who then receives the package and ask questions about the package such as the destination and the content of the package, once it is given the employee enters it into the system which automatically produces a Smart Label which is plastered onto the package. Answer: Based on the case study, the role of the wireless communication is used to track all packages and drivers at all time. One of its importance is to connect peripheral devices and senders’ PC. Whiles it is used to certify that flexibility increases it is also used to transmit real time information to UPS Center. Gives permission for customers to use UPS System to get immediate online access to their package location and saves a lot of time as drivers get information of new pickups and change in their routes without going to the office.
