About 80 million American citizens suffer from heart conditions and the number of cardiac patients continue to rise. Cardiac Care Nurses are registered nurses who specialize in the cardiovascular system. Cardiac Care Nurses may work in a variety of medical facilities and take care of their patients that have heart problems. Being a Cardiac Care Nurse can help a variety of people from elderly to younger patients. When dealing with cardiac care patients certain problems may occur including: congestive heart failure (CHF), cardiac dysrhythmia, myocardial infraction, or other surgical issues. A cardiac care nurse monitors the vital signs of patients before and after surgery, and help patients with any pain they may have afterward. To become a cardiac care nurse you must obtain a Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Also you must pass the National Council License Examination (NCLEX-RN). Before officially becoming a CCN or Cardiac Care Nurse you must have worked as a RN for at least two years, and have at least 2,000 hours of clinical experience in cardiovascular nursing. Afterward, you will have to take 30 hours of continuing education classes, then you will have to apply to take the Cardiac Care Nursing Certification Examination. As far as salary goes it depends on what state you practice in, the facility you practice in, and how specialized you become. The average salary is between $72,000 and $109,000 but it isn't a set
