1. Ranasinghe, Prashan. Theoretical Criminology 16.1 (Feb 2012) Jane Jacobs' framing of public disorder and its relation to the 'broken windows' theory. As much information has been known and said about “broken windows theory”, as little effort has been put to find out about its historical perspectives. The author of this article went back to the history as far as 1960s, and tried to discover the origins of this well-known theory. He explored what concerns had been made about public disorder and what were important forerunners that outlined the idea of “broken windows”. But what are some causes of neighborhood disorder? Is it true that the higher quality of life in a neighborhood, the less crimes occur? This article studied the relationship between neighborhood disorder and quality of life and concluded that disorder is related to quality of life. Specifically, physical disorder plays a more significant role than social disorder in producing quality of life. 3. Wicherts Jelte, Bakker Marjan. Broken Windows, Mediocre Methods, and Substandard Statistics. The authors of this article took the quasi-experiments made by Keizer, Lindenberg, and Steg that confirmed the theory of “broken windows”. It also proved that prohibition signs have negative effect on people and make them more willing to commit crime. The authors put doubt on the given study and suggest that this study cannot be legible since its lacking a lot of details, also methodological and statistical issues. 4. Williams Patricia. “Broken Windows” Broken. This article refers to the broken windows of New York City as of 2014. The author has negative perception of the theory, and criticizes it saying that police officers are mostly focusing on minor offenses and this strategy will most likely not reduce crime. The primary focus of this finding is that broken windows theory needs to be reconsidered. The study shows that people do not distinguish disorder and crime and they dissatisfied with the police agencies focusing more on disorder than on serious crime. 6. International Review of Law and Economics. First Impressions are more important than early intervention: Qualifying Broken Windows Theory in the Lab. It shows that first impression and early punishment of antisocial behavior are independent. This article proves by experiments and researches that first impression is very important and it will not fade away over time. No matter how many things were fixed with the time and hard work of police officers and community together, the effect of first impression will not change. Also it proves that early intervention to fix things have small effect. Money spent on fixing things are worth spending. This article only proves that all windows should be fixed. 7. James Q.
