Apollo and Athena Apollo and Athena are a god and goddess from ancient Greek myth. Apollo is the god of music, sun, light, poetry and music. He is the son of Zeus and Leto. Athena on the other hand is the goddess of wisdom, and war strategy. She is the daughter of Zeus and Metis, who was a nymph. She and Apollo are half-brother and half-sister. They both share similarities in their myths. Apollo’s myth is The Musical Contest between Apollo and Marsyas. Athena’s myth is called Athena and Poesidoen Vie for Athens. Apollo’s myth is about a music contest between him and a Satyr named Marsyas. Marsyas was first given a flute by the goddess Athena. Marsays loved to play the flute and he played it a lot.…show more content… Poseidon went first and hit the ground with his trident and out of the ground came a horse, and Cecrops was not impressed. It was then Athena’s turn, she struck the ground with her spear and an olive branch came out of the ground. Cercrops was very impressed with Athena’s gift and declared her the winner. In both myths the similarities between Apollo and Athena are that they are both having a contest against someone else. The final similarity is that Athena give the flute to Marsays, that lets him play against Apollo. They both have a lot more differences between each other. In Apollo’s myth he is very arrogant and believes that he is much better than Marsays. Athens is shown to be very generous in Apollo’s myth, while Apollo is shown to be cruel. The outcomes of both contests are very different as well. In Athena’s myth something useful comes of the contest, an olive branch. Which helped Greece’s economy very much. While in Apollo’s myth the outcome of the contest it terrible, and ends up with Marsays being skinned
