On the first day of my second semester as a freshman, I shuffled down the senior hallway passing by students much taller than my 5’3 frame. Dread filled me with each step as I advanced to the AP class I had not signed up to take. I, along with my fellow classmates, were placed in AP biology by the school as an experiment to determine how well freshmen performed in an AP class. That first day my teacher told me, “Don’t expect to receive an A in this class or pass the AP exam.” Initially, I felt crestfallen because my teacher had no faith I would succeed, but I resolved to prove her wrong.
