Animal Farm is a novel written by George Orwell in 1947. This novel is based on the events in the lead up to the Soviet Revolution and beyond. However, the book focuses on a greater issue that is the abuse of power by those who hold it. Orwell highlights this matter by writing the novel as a fable using animals to soften the harshness of the moral that is hidden in the storyline. Throughout the novel, Orwell uses the animals to represent humans and their behaviours and he also utilises persuasive language to drive the message into the reader. Firstly, power abuse is a harsh topic for readers to process and fully understand, but by Orwell using animals to soften the moral, the reader is more susceptible to encompassing the moral and understanding…show more content…
Although the moral is initially hard to comprehend, Orwell uses persuasive language to give the reader an understanding of his moral. Although it may be subtle, looking at the writing style of Orwell really tries to get the reader to understand his moral. “The source of the trouble appeared to be that Napoleon and Mr Pilkington had each played an ace of spades simultaneously. Twelve voices were shouting in anger, and they were all alike. No question, now, what had happened to the faces of all the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again: but already it was impossible to say which as which” (Orwell: 1989; 95). By Orwell writing this at the very end of the book, it makes the reader think back throughout the entire storyline and think about how even though in the beginning the animals stood for rights and held completely morals, and then at the very end of the novel, they just restored to what they stood against initially.
