Pope Francis’ speech to Congress was both inspirational and was meant to unite a heavily divided nation. He spoke of treating not only humanity, but the earth, with the love and dignity exhibited by Jesus. In addition, Francis instructs Congress to preoccupy themselves with protecting by any means necessary the gift of life. With the power rested upon them, they should preserve the image and likeness of God. He speaks of the freedom that was so heavily strived for by the likes of American heroes such as: Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, Dorothy Day, and Thomas Merton. He tells us to remain in unfaltering effort in order to preserve the freedoms that this country was founded upon. However, he apprises us not to indulge in violence and brutal atrocities just for the sake of religion. He advises us to use the government put in place in order to resolve conflicts and defend religious beliefs.…show more content…
He discusses the acceptance off all of humanity, and orates of the love we should show one another. Finally, he exhorts us to protect the environment. He tells our generation that the time is now to make a lasting impression. We must protect the gift of life with the utmost care in which God envisioned when he created this beautiful earth. Francis’ message can be applied in our lives daily. The love and compassion that he so greatly implored from Congress can be exhibited anywhere. Simply holding a door for someone can do wonders for a person’s morale. Further recycling can help the environment immensely. Finally, if everyday problems could be resolved with the tranquility and patience demonstrated by Jesus, a more peaceful society could be obtained.
