In the beginning of the story Connie is a vain teenage girl that likes to fight with her mom and hangout with friends. One night when she goes to the shopping plaza with her girls she ends up going to a restaurant with a boy. The restaurant is a symbol of sin and will lead to the eventual downfall of Connie. During the trip to the restaurant she unfortunately sees the irresistible Arnold Friend who’s first actions are “ He wagged a finger and laughed and said, ‘Gonna get you, baby,’[...]”(615). This shows that he could sense the corruptness in Connie and is why he decided to go after her. The morning after that her family is going to a barbeque, but Connie wants to stay home all alone; Arnold Friend mysteriously knows her and her family's
