Aldous Huxley: An intellectual writer of the Highest Class “Every man's memory is his private literature.” (Aldous Huxley) Aldous has had many traumatic life events that have helped sculpture some of his greatest works. Aldous Huxley was a prestigious writer, scientific experimenter and overall was able to overcome hardships and have as successful life. He had a hard childhood, had many achievements and helped change the English community. Aldous Huxley was a very well respected and wise writer, so when he brought up non-fiction topics that could become reality, it created people to ask questions and his work help people see the world in a new way. As a small child he was known as showing alertness and a different kind of intelligence. (somaweb.org) In a result of Huxley growing up in an upper class family, he felt that everyone was unique and different and that was the essential to freedom. (somaweb.org) Aldous felt that he had an obligation to fight the idea happiness was achieved through a caste system. (somaweb.org) His life was very difficult from a young age. When he young his mother was his teacher until she died from cancer. In 1911, He was attending a very prestigious school named Eton. He was also diagnosed with keratitis, which left him almost blind. In 1914 his older brother Noel Trevelyan Huxley, committed suicide. At the age of 17 he was forced out of school. He decided to volunteer to join the army but because of his Keratitis Punctata, he was rejected on health grounds. Later he was able to attend oxford and receive a degree in English literature. (Egs.edu) When Aldous realized her need to make a living his career in journalism and criticism began. His first job was at Garsington Manor, as a laborer. The Manor was the site of the “Bloomsbury Society”, where he met a group of intellectuals, and his soon to be wife, Maria Nys.
