Adults Impact On Children In To Kill A MockingbirdAdults influences children every day,either positively or negatively. Exactly like Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird the role of adults influence on Scout understanding of the world and their values happens myriads time throughout the novel. Atticus,her father, taught Scout to be in one’s perspective and showed her true courage. Calpurnia,Finch resident’s house keeper, showed her equality and taught her manners . Miss Maudie, a close family friend and a neighbor, explain to her the sin of killing a mockingbird and a role model to Scout. First, Atticus was a very influential person to Scout. Scout agrees, so the next Cal dress them up nicely. The reason she decide to bring them so Scout and Jem could see that the colour people treat them as if they were one of them. On the other hand white people would treat them intolerably. Calpurnia teaches Scout manners when they invite Walter Cunningham over for dinner. Scout was shock that Walter pour syrup all over his food, so she ask what was he doing. As a result, Walter stop eating and become very embarrass. Calpurnia couldn’t stand it so she drag Scout into the kitchen and told Scout:“ Hush, your mouth! Don’t matter who they are, anybody sets foot in this house’s yo’ comp’ny and don’t you let me catch you remarkin’ on their ways like you was so high and mighty! yo’ folks might be better’n the Cunninghams but it don’t count for nothin’ the way you’re disgracin’ ‘em-if you can’t act fit to eat at the table you can just set here and eat in the kitchen!”(Pg.24-25)In this quotation Calpurnia told Scout to not judge other and respect them even if their not as rich as you.…show more content…

On the other hand people think that it alright to hurt them. Through this Scout believes that Boo is a “mockingbird”, so she think that she should protect him from other. The reason why Miss Maudie is Scout role model is because “...who worked in her flower beds in an old straw hat and men’s coveralls, but after her five o’clock bath she would appear on the porch and reign over the street in magisterial beauty.” Afterall, Scout is a Tomboy, so she thinks that she could be who she want and be a lady when it the right time.As shown above, the role of adults influence on Scout understanding of the world and their values happens myriads time throughout the novel.
