An electrical technician is an in demand career that leads to different and more complex jobs around the country. Davies High School gives the opportunity for an individual to gain experience in a trade or career. Davies gives the possibilities to achieve success in a career to students, in a way many other schools do not offer to their students. Multiple skills are learned and practiced while attending Davies. One of those skills is the responsibility to be successful. Students will learn to be punctual and on time, and to take responsibility for their actions. Another skill, which is learned in the technical area, are the skills acquired in the technical areas. One of the most important skills, greatly taught and practiced in Davies, is respect. To be respectful to fellow peers and teachers will prepare one for their upcoming career, because as an employee, you must respect your co-workers, bosses, and customers. One problem someone may encounter with the future of this career is the advancement of technology in regards to the job security of an electrician. Newer household technology could prove to be unbeneficial for electricians for the possibility of providing power to electronics without the process of connecting wires may create new types of jobs that will appear, and replace electricians in certain settings, or making electricians jobs short and simple, resulting in the loss of jobs over the years for electricians. One could contribute to this field by finding new ways to handle the problem of advancing technology and the decline of need for an electrician. “While some schools offer certificate programs that can be completed in less than a year, becoming an electrical technician typically requires a 2-year associate's degree”(¨Electrical Technician: Educational Requirements¨). The 2 year associates degree is part of the apprenticeship program, “electricians learn their trade in a 4- or 5-year apprenticeship program… each year of the program, apprentices must complete at least 144 hours of technical training and 2,000 hours of paid on-the-job training”(¨Electricians¨). Employers typically would look for electricians with certifications. The certifications that are looked for may be 10 or 30 Hour OSHA cards, or certifications for advanced tools that may be used on the job. Employers look for these certifications and training because being an electrician takes a lot of skill. “It takes a large amount of skill and expert knowledge to work with electricity every single day”(¨Why Become an Electrician¨). Employers looks for other skills outside of the trade, such as people skills. As an electrician, jobs will be with new people all the time, and having good people skills will grant better business, more customer satisfaction, and more pay. Along with these people skills, electricians need good critical thinking skills.
