Burke’s pentad is the method associated with dramatism. Burke’s dramatistic pentad provides five basic terms for the analyzing of human motive. The five terms that comprise the Pentad are compared to that of journalistic writing, in which reporters usually ask: who, what, where, when, how and why(Burke, 1969). The agent, act, scene, agency and purpose are the five branches of the Pentad. The agent is normally whoever or whatever performs the act and enacts the meaning of the “story.” It is typically an individual, but can also be a group of individuals. Some of the questions that are normally asked about the agents are: “How do the agents act?” and “By what means do they act?” The act is generally a motivated and purposeful action. This includes
