Raisin in the Sun In the play “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry, there are many ways that the family is run. The two main people who are in charge of the household are Mama and Walter. The family has dreams of their own which involve living a better lifestyle. There are a lot of conflicts in this play that are similar to each other because the main reason for it is money. The family dynamics that affect how the play proceeds are the things the Youngers do on a daily basis. Mama is the oldest Younger in the family so she has most of the say of what gets to be done in the house. A family dynamic that the Youngers have is being costumed to being the first one in the bathroom before anyone else. Mama tells her family how her husband worked himself to death for all of that money. Mama split the money and gave it to each family member to choose to do what they want with it. Mama used her money to buy her family a house and she was determined to make that dream come true because she wants her family to stay together. Buying the house was really resourceful because it brought the family together and Mama wanted to see that after all the obstacles that had come their way. In the play “Raisin In The Sun” Lorraine stated that Walter did not think things through because he spent every single last penny to make an investment which turned out to be a trick and someone took the money and Mama was furious when she found out. Big Walter plays a major role in the play even though he is dead because the whole thing revolves around the check that he left for Mama. Poverty was a big part of the play because it was mainly the reason why Walter wanted to own his own liquor store.
