Language is not merely written words, but it is the link that connects the words to emotions and feelings. In “Wit”, Margaret Edson structures the play by using the power of language in order to do just this. Language is used to help Vivian cope with moments of pain, fear, and humiliation through humor and comfort. Edson also uses the power of language in order to explore what it means to be human, showing how Vivian tries to escape any type of human connection and how towards the end of her life, she finds that being human is exactly what she needs as her life nears.
