Drugs was a main issue for some jazz composers to lost time and fame by using drugs. Their names could have made it to the top of the music charts but drugs led them to an early death or away from music. One composer who lost his life to alcohol was Leon Bix Beiderbecke or better known as Bix. The second was Charlie Parker who was a Alto Saxophone player, he was addicted to heroin and alcohol. The third was John Coltrane he was a song writer and Saxophonist who experimented with drugs and was mainly addicted to heroin. My final is Bud Powell a jazz pianist…show more content…
Bird was born August 29, 1920. He died on March 12, 1955. Bird was a musician, composer and an Alto saxophone, tenor saxophone. His genres were Jazz and bebop he played in important bands. One was McShann orchestra but was fired due to lack of showing up for gigs. He was addicted to heroin and pills. His addiction kept him form becoming bigger in the Jazz, bebop genres. His official causes of death were lobar pneumonia and a bleeding ulcer. Bird also had an advanced case of cirrhosis and had suffered a heart attack. The coroner who performed his autopsy mistakenly estimated Parker's 34-year-old body to be between 50 and 60 years of age, which was caused by his drug addictions. He could of had made it bigger in his career with all the famous bands and people he associated with like Dizzy Gillepie and Max Roach but once again he was a lost due to drugs. John Coltrane, was born on September 23, 1926 in Hamlet, North Carolina. He served in the navy and was a 2nd generation of music in his family. He was a musician and a composer and bandleader. We lost Bix to alcohol or his real name Leon Bix Beiderbecke. The second was Charlie Parker who he was addicted to heroin and alcohol. The third was John Coltrane who experimented with drugs and was mainly addicted to heroin and died of drug abuse. My final is Bud Powell who died of drug addition as well and was one who composed the most because he lived a longer time of his career but was lost due to drug as well. I have learned that artist are still dying to day because of drug abuse. Hope that they can manage things better but even fame and fortune can not save
