Twain uses humor in this essay by saying that man is lower that the lower animals in the animal kingdom. So that makes them higher than us. He claims to have done these experiments but they were actually just observations. He made the experiments up. In our society, it is legally wrong to put men from all racial and religious background and let them kill each other. He used humor because if he seriously wrote these delicate and sensitive issues he can incur all kinds of comments bad and good alike from the readers. In today’s society, authors, singers, actors, late night talk show hosts, and stand-up comics use humor all the time to discuss serious subjects like racism, politics, crimes, sexual orientation, and others.
