Isabella Valancy Crawford was born on 25 of December, 1850 in Dublin, Ireland. Her family later moved to Canada, this is very important as, “She is especially noted for her vivid descriptions of the Canadian landscape.” Her family was relatively poor, despite her father being a physician, so she began to send poems and stories to the newspapers during the time they lived in the market town of Peterborough. On the 3rd of July in 1875 he father died leaving her, her sister, and her mother relatively dependent upon the money she earned from her writings.
