Role of Morgan the Goddess For my final Gawain paper, I decided to write about Morgan the Goddesses role in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Surprisingly Morgan the Goddess background is just as interesting as well. She is known as Morgan Le Fay, Morgaine, Morge and many, many other beautiful names as well. Morgan is also known to be one of the largest enigma of Arthurian legend. She is also known to be one of the most intelligent and very educated woman in her time. On the other hand, Morgan has a bad reputation; she is an evil, sexual, and temptress. Traditionally, in different legends, Morgan and king Arthur aren’t usually on good terms. But according to the book of Encyclopedia of witches and witchcraft, “Moran invariably portrayed as evil, plot against Arthur, or otherwise brings him down”. In other words she was going to do what she needed to get her revenge. This shows what Morgan is looked as in other stories, legends or poems. But Morgan has been in many different works, such as popular culture, Fantasy, and many more. Morgan Le Fay comes up throughout high and late middle ages in many different roles. She is usually featured as more of a lover and a hero. But once we step into Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, this is when we begin to notice Morgan Le Fay she is known to be the a manipulating, evil and a controlling woman.
