In this novel, Dracula’s main goal is to leave his current estate in Transylvania and become more involved in the modern world. His plan to achieve this goal is to move to London. In his words, he longs to “be in the midst of the whirl and rush of humanity, to share its life, its change, its death, and all that make it what it is” (Stoker 26) Dracula brings Johnathan Harker to his estate to learn more about London.
Dracula is a difficult character to understand because the reader does not get to read the story from his point of view. The reader learns about him and his motives through the other character’s journal entries. The reader gets the understanding that the count is dark and evil throughout the novel, but it isn’t understood why he is the way that he is.…show more content… He is an intelligent, hardworking young man. He is a young lawyer, also known as a solicitor in the time period in which Dracula was written. Johnathan is the first character to come into contact with Dracula. He is sent to Dracula’s estate to conduct a real estate deal with him. Harker is under the impression that Dracula brought him in as his “guest.” After being in the estate after a couple of days, Johnathan realized he has become a prisoner of Dracula. This experience was traumatizing to Harker. As soon as he escaped, he wanted to put the whole situation behind him, until he ran into Dracula on the streets of London one
