The presenter of the workshop “What Baseball Taught Me About Diversity” was Antonio D. Evans. He has played Baseball since he was five years old up to his finish in College. Baseball was what helped him become more culturally diverse. Evans said that Baseball was the reason why he wanted to be more diverse because he wanted to be more powered to knowledge not by listening but by applying. Evans started by talking about his journey through baseball. Evans also talked about the life lessons that the game teaches you. Lastly, Evans talked about what he would call “Scoring with Diversity” which are the steps you have to take in order to get to your destination seen by him as “home base.”
Throughout his journey through baseball, as I said earlier Evans started playing since the age of five. He played all his life in many different teams, where not all were so good. He considered himself a very good player, even if he didn’t play for the best teams. During his High…show more content… Life lessons that baseball has taught Evans is that when people say respect the game, they really mean to learn to respect people. I believe that as long as you know how to play they shouldn’t care about your skin color, because if you know how to play you can help them be effective. Evan also learned that words can be hurtful. He learned this when he heard his coach say to one of his teammates “you want to be one of them” referring to the niggers, for wearing his hat backwards. In a way what the coach said was indirectly said to him. But along with that he also learned that you can’t keep that grudge with you forever, sometimes it is best to forgive. Whatever you choose you must be able to adjust, because in a diverse world you can adjust, be better and be a part of something or you can be bitter about it. Finally, Evans also learned that you should listen to at least one person so you can be able to learn and be
