A just society is an achievable goal when a certain measure of equality is met; an egalitarian chance to succeed. An actively involved government and the promotion of equal opportunities for all lie at the heart of welfare liberalism. As welfare liberals work to further develop these important values, their ideology strives to promote the individual rights and freedoms that are necessary for true liberty and positive social outcomes. By removing the barriers that may prevent individuals from attaining success, welfare liberalism’s advocation of equality and tolerance allow social justice to prevail. Most people primarily think of programs that help the poor, like welfare, when they think of governmental assistance. While this is a large component of what welfare provides, it is not the sole function. T.H.
