The most important thing to helping me overcome my adversity is Upward Bound. Upward Bound has helped me escape my mother's drinking, give me the strength to take the hard classes and the knowledge to know when I'm in over my head. In Upward Bound I have constant contact with my adviser, she helps me get through anything tough (she even bought me non-perishable food when my mom left for 18 days) along with reassuring me that things will turn out right. Over the summer, I spend 6 weeks living with about 100 other students in a college dorm room and going to classes. That's 6 weeks I'm not taking care of my mom. 6 weeks where I can do something fun without worrying that mom is passed out drunk somewhere. If it was not for Upward Bound I would
