In World War Z, there is a pandemic that is gravely affecting mankind. A virus is going around that causes inhabitants of Earth to turn into zombies who lose the human ability to think as healthy human beings do. Military forces are sent out to eradicate the issue. The endeavors that the soldiers go through are relatable to Amanda Ripley’s Survival Arc that she often mentions in her book, the Unthinkable. In particular, the soldiers’ experiences are relatable to the Decisive Moment and Denial. They overcome these obstacles by deciding to kill the zombies and accepting the fact that action needs to be taken because the zombies won’t go away without forceful intervention. The Decisive Moment is a recurring point in World War Z, but it takes a major place when all of the countries decide on whether or not to continue risking lives in order to kill the zombies. A lot of this is hidden in the news and since no visual or obvious signs of this are being presented, no one cares to take any action. The major blame goes to the U.S. government for not managing the FDA properly so that they could investigate these issues and release the proper vaccines to the public. When the interviewee was asked about the FDA, he responded with “Back then the FDA was one of the most underfunded, mismanaged organizations in the country.” (55) This is why when the infection begins to breakout and the citizens of various countries become aware of the real situation, the infection is going to take its toll. This relates to Ripley’s idea of Denial because the government hid the real issue and convinced everyone it was rabies. A lesson was learned from this and now humans are stuck facing this
