The scholarly journal that was chosen for the write up refers to religion and how it relates to modesty and immodesty. This paper connects to views of one singular issue surrounding the Jewish faith and modesty. On one hand we have a very strong point of view and the other a modest alternative to the issue. In the article labeled “Uncovering the Truth About Modesty” by, Melody Green she explains her strong perspective on the matter. “Uncovering the truth about modesty” is a writing about the immodesty in the world today in relation to dress and self image. The article takes specific texts from the Torah to give examples to how the style of today conflicts with the scripture. The article starts with this verse from the Torah “Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discretely, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments; but rather by means of good works, as befits women making a claim to godliness.” (1 Tim 2:940). In other words, they believe that clothing and hair do not make a women and should not be how a woman is judged. This verse has very specific words selected within that are highlighted in the rest of the article.…show more content…
The next section of the article is titles “The Fashion Queen” highlighting the style of women today. Although there is direct correlation between modesty and clothing within the text the author also highlights that not only does modesty refer to how revealing your clothing is, but she also goes on to say, “Being dressed in a worldly manner does not always mean that you are dressed immodestly. It may simply mean that your style is flashy or overdone-generally speaking, just too much.” (Green, 1980). This aspect of thought brings in much more then just the point of being too revealing.
