TOY FOX TERRIER
ORIGIN AND HISTORY
The Toy Fox terrier (TFT) was developed in the 1930s by breeding small Smooth fox terriers to several toy breeds including the Miniature Pinscher, Italian Greyhound, Chihuahua and Toy Manchester terrier. This combination retained the gameness of the terrier and a milder disposition of the other breeds. The Toy Fox terrier is a true American breed and has also been called the American Toy Fox terrier or AmerToy. The breed was recognized by the United Kennel Club in 1936 and admitted to the AKC Miscellaneous Class in July 2000. The breed became the AKC’s 148th breed and a member of the Toy Group on January 1, 2003. 1a
