Tom Sawyer is a very outgoing character, which can lead to decisions that don’t benefit him. He tries to be a good role model, but with that responsibility comes other responsibilities, such as being a hard worker, and being honest. Being a hard worker means putting as much effort as possible into the project and working with the best ability towards even the easiest things. Being honest is something that should come easily, and even when the truth is bad, or could cause trouble, telling the truth should be the first option. Contemplating whether telling a lie, or telling the truth is the right choice, that is already going towards the path of being a bad role model. Also, when Aunt Polly asked Tom what made the cat go all bonkers, he said “I don’t know, aunt.” (pg. 80) As a rule, if a good role model is honest, they would tell the truth even if they are afraid they will get in trouble. Since Tom didn’t tell his aunt that he actually fed his cat pain-killer, that is not telling the truth. Therefore, Tom is not a good, honest role
