In There Will be Blood, Paul Thomas Anderson juxtaposes Daniel’s greed and ambition of gaining profit against his façade of being a family man in order to show that money leads to corruption and greed that makes people lose sight of themselves and drives them into solitary madness. When we first see Daniel in the film, he is just a single minded prospector hacking away at the dirt in order to find silver. Without any dialogue we are given a glimpse of Daniel and the factor that drives him; profit. We see that Daniel is consumed by money to the point where he will drag himself into town with a broken leg to cash in on his find.
