According to scientist and other researchers birth order highly influences your personality ("It's My Life . Family . Birth Order | PBS Kids GO!"). The birth order theory says the first born is a natural leader, with great ambitions, and responsibility ("What Your Birth Order Says About Your Personality"). In the book it says that Darry, after the death of their parents in an automobile accident, took on the role of of the household leader and Soda and Ponyboy’s father figure by getting two jobs (Hinton, 1967, p. 16). No, birth order has not yet been successfully proven and even some philosophers and scientists say it is a myth. In a scientific article it says that the presence and theory of birth order is to little effect on a child’s behavior ("Birth Order*"). In my personal opinion I believe that birth order could have a lot to do with a person’s behavior and skills. Using the novel, The Outsiders, you can see how the birth order traits compare to the three brothers. Darry has leadership skills and is responsible like most first born children are ("What Your Birth Order Says About Your Personality"). Sodapop acts like a mediator and a problem solver for his brother’s arguments ("Cigna").
