It can be said that superheroes play an important role in men’s lives. However, little is known about the psychological effect it has on these individuals with regards to the unattainable muscular images these superheroes portray. Previous research indicates that bodily dissatisfaction is becoming an area for great concern due to the number of negative outcomes associated with it.
Research was done to determine the effect superheroes had on men’s bodily image and the role parasocial relationships, that is, psychological connections with media figures, play in those effects.
