Just as the book starts, Amir captures my attention with these words. While doing this he also is foreshadowing at the main incident of the story and the reason he is telling it. As soon as I began to read the quote it stimulated myr interest without disclosing exactly what Amir is talking about, and from the time interval Amir refers to, twenty-six years, I started to get a suggestion of just how significant this moment was to Amir. As the story unfurls, I started to become conscious that the deserted alley Amir refers to is where Hassan was raped by Assef after retrieving the blue kite when Amir won the kite-fighting tournament and that this event has primarily defined the course of Amir’s life since. Amir signifies this when he says that
