Contrary to the beliefs of theAmericanpopulace, administration and military,this was not a random attack for the Japanese. They had planned the attack for months. On December 7, 1941 Japan planned to attackthe United States of America because “we”were keeping them from attaining their goal of forming a “community” of islands in the Western Pacific and the South East Asia. This goal was called The Greater East Asia co-prosperity sphere.This was a long calculated plot to gain resources and prevent the United States from trading oil resources with China, Amortal enemy of Japan.They hoped that their lighting strike at Pearl Harbor would destroy the US fleet in the pacific.Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor were considered one of the most brilliant operations in military history. Why was Pearl Harbor chosen by the Japanese? During the Japanese conquest, they noted that Hawaii had one of the largest naval bases in the Pacific. Therefore, confirming their fear that the United States would thwart their goal to develop The Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere.They also noted Hawaii and Japan were only about 4000 miles apart. During this address Present Roosevelt stated, “Yesterday December the 7th, 1941 will be the day that will live in infamy.” And the President was right. America pulled together to support its nation. In the home front women worked in the factories to manufacture goods for the war as the men were fighting over seas. The war pulled the economy out of recession. In June 6th we remember those who made sacrifices for their country and fellow comrades. Today many individuals visit Pearl Harbor to pay respect to the veterans. The veterans of Pearl Harbor have their ashes placed were the ships were sunk. Up to this day the USS Arizona still leaks
