CNN’s Eliott C. McLaughlin interviewed the perpetrator’s father, Ian Mercer, about his thoughts on his son’s recent shooting at a community college. In the article, the dad blamed the guns as the real ‘killer’ in the shooting and attempted to dissuade any inquiries about the possibility that his son, Chris Harper-Mercer, may have a mental health issue. The father was incredulous to believe that his son was able to hold thirteen guns in his possession; thus, he considered that stricter gun control policies would have prevented this unfortunate scenario.
