In the reading “What Mary Didn’t Know”, Frank Jackson discusses the concept of physicalism. Physicalism is the belief that when everything around us broken to a core properties, it is physical. The author argues against this theory stating that the things around us cannot be explains using this concept. Jackson discusses an experiment surrounding a girl named Mary that is confined to a room that is black and white and that everything introduced to her is of the same color, she is educated using books and television that are black and white.
