In the reading “What Mary Didn’t Know”, Frank Jackson discusses the concept of physicalism. Physicalism is the belief that when everything around us broken to a core properties, it is physical. The author argues against this theory stating that the things around us cannot be explains using this concept. Jackson discusses an experiment surrounding a girl named Mary that is confined to a room that is black and white and that everything introduced to her is of the same color, she is educated using books and television that are black and white. Throughout her life, she has not seen any other color but has learnt about it through books.
