“He did not perceive that my smile now was at the thought of his immolation,” (Montresor page 57.) While looking at the two pieces of literature: “The Cask of Amontillado,” and “The most Dangerous Game,” we cannot help but wonder who the most evil villain was. Both are cold blooded and have killed people using different ways. According to dictionary.com, being evil means you have a profound immorality, wickedness, and depravity, epically when regarded as a supernatural force. We then have to choose the more sinister being, Motresor or General Zaroff? In “The Cast of Amontillado,” Montresor dislikes Fortunato an account of the injuries he has caused him so he decides to lure him into the catacombs and bury him alive. (Montresor page 57.) “The…show more content… He lied to fortunate saying there was a pipe, or large barrel of Amontillado, or Spanish wine. “My dear Fortunato… I have received a pipe of what passes for Amontillado, and I have my doubts.” (Montresor page 58.) While General Zaroff told Rainsford what was happening later so he could be ready for the worst outcome. “I wanted the ideal animal to hunt… It must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason.”(General Zaroff page 31.) The General did not lie like Montresor did, he told Rainsford why he chose to hunt people and this gave him a chance of survival.” Also Montresor was the more sinister because he took advantage of the fun environment Fortunato was in and that he was not sober. (Montresor page 58- 59.) Although Zaroff took advantage of Rainsford’s desperation, Rainsford was still able to think quickly so he had a chance of survival, unlike Fortunato. Montresor was evil because he wanted Fortunato to suffer, he smiled at the thought of his death, and he knew Fortunato was going to painfully die because he knew he was not prepared or expecting to die. (Montresor page 57.) An example of this was when he sarcastically shoed a concern for Fortunato’s health. “Come, we will go back; your health is precious. You are rich, respected, admired, admired, beloved; you are happy, as once I was. You are a man to be missed… you will be ill, and I cannot…show more content… They may think this because General Zaroff has killed multiple people for his own enjoyment. “The weak were put here to give the strong pleasure… I hunt the scum of the earth- sailors from tramp ships- lascars, blacks, Chinese, whites, mongrels- a thoroughbred horse or hound is worth more to me than a score of them.” (General Zaroff page 32.) This is not as bad as the suffering Montresor has caused because these people General Zaroff has killed have been washed up to his island, in bad condition anyway. They would have had little chance of surviving on that island because lack of food and they would have been in poor condition from fighting the ocean. From the skills that the general had, normal people would not have
