The Cask of Amontillado is a story written by Edgar Alan Poe that is centered on revenge and deceit when one friend has insulted the other beyond their limits. The story takes place in Italy during the time of Carnival when Fortunato, and the rest of the city, would be drunk and distracted. He would then leave him to die in a place no one would look. Montressor was very vengeful because Fortunato insulted him, approximately 1000 times. Montressor was an intelligent person and plotted his revenge to the last detail. He used Fortunato’s pride against him. He even described his smile was at ¨the thought of his immolation¨(Montressor Page 266) Montressor seemed to feel some guilt about his crime, although not very much guilt, about the condition
