The movie A Beautiful Mind is about a man named John Nash who has Schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a brain disorder in where people see and hear things that aren't real. There are many symptoms that come with this disorder, they range from mild to very sever. The first symptom I’ll start with is delusions they are false beliefs that aren't based on reality, delusions occur in 4 out of 5 Schizophrenic patients. Next theres Hallucinations this is when they see or hear things that aren't real. Another symptom is disorganized thinking which is when they don't make sense in there speech. Lastly sometimes they don't have the ability or a reduced to act normal. Its still not known what causes schizophrenia, other they that it runs in your genetics and that your environment can contribute to it. Its Also known that some drugs can trigger Schizophrenia and these are particularly cannabis, cocaine, LSD and amphetamines. Having a first degree relative with schizophrenia can increase your chance of this disorder by 10%. If one parent has Schizophrenia it rises the child’s chance by 13% even if the child is adopted and if both parents have it your chances go up by 36%. Also having an identical twin with it will increase your chances by 50%. Schizophrenia is 1.4 times more common in men then women, though women function better as the disorder goes on into a later age. There isn’t a cure for Schizophrenia but there is medicine that will help, as well as psychological and social therapy. The prefrontal cortex is the part of the brain that is affected but Schizophrenia, its right behind the forehead. This part of the brain is for doing complex things like executive functions, including decision-making
