In the Essay “Probation and parole are good alternatives to incarceration” the author is stating that prisons are in a need to shut down because of alternatives to incarceration. The author thinks that probation and parole are good alternatives to serving full sentences. But in contrast the essay “There are high cost to incarceration alternatives” the author states that there are high costs to letting criminals back into society on probation. In this society I am a firm believer that a criminal should serve his full sentence no matter what. I do not think there should be a good behavior release program and probation and parole release programs. I think that there should be strict and thorough sentences for every charge and that inmate should serve it to the full term.…show more content…
The author writes that the prison system has declined over the past couple of decades. With many of the prisons shutting down they are finding alternatives for discipline. Meaning they are bringing criminals into the probation and parole system. The author states that there is a high need for prisons with the increase in hard crimes. But with many states not adequately funded in the jail systems, the author states that they need to find alternatives to incarceration. The author points out that the majority of the correctional systems money comes from incarceration and that will be one of the downfalls. But the author also points out that putting people on probation before they are incarcerated will help reduce the space in the jails or prisons.
