What do YOU define as a courageous action? Is it a small act where you save a few people, or is it a HUMONGOUS act where you save multiple people, perhaps even a whole city. No matter the act whether big or small, courage is courage, despite what some say. There are thousands, maybe even millions of acts of courage that I could cover, however there were three specific ones that I had picked to speak about today. The first I had decided to speak about was Mr. Rainsford from the story The Most Dangerous Game. In this story he was shipwrecked on an island and is challenged to a hunt for his freedom. “Suppose he refuses to be hunted?” “Oh,” said the general, “I give him his option, of course. He need not play that game if he doesn’t wish to. If he does not wish to hunt, I turn him over to Ivan.” (Connell, 72). Rosa Parks looked straight at him and said: “No.” Flustered and not quite sure what to do, Blake retorted, “Well, I’m going to have you arrested.” And Parks, still sitting next to the window, replied softly, “You may do that.” In this piece of evidence you have Rosa Parks standing up to the bus driver. This is a courageous action because Rosa Parks is standing up to someone who has more authority than her.
